Final Environmental Impact Statement

Available for public viewing

Shree Minerals Limited (Shree) invites members of the public to view the  Final Environmental Impact State (EIS) for its proposed magnetite (and  hematite) mine at Nelson Bay River in northwest Tasmania.

Assessment process

In March 2011, the Minister for the Environment, the Hon Tony Burke  MP, determined that the proposal was a controlled action and required  the preparation of an EIS under Part 8 of the Environment Protection and  Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The protected matters relevant to the proposal under the EPBC Act are as  follows:
  •             Listed threatened species and communities (sections 18 & 18A)
  •             Listed migratory species (sections 20 & 20A).

Draft EIS

A Draft EIS was prepared by Shree in accordance with EIS guidelines provided  by the Minister. The Draft EIS described the proposal, examined the potential  environmental impacts and described how those impacts will be avoided,  mitigated and/or managed.  The Draft EIS was made available for public review and comment.

Final EIS

One submission on the Draft EIS was received during the public display  period.  Shree has prepared a Response to Submissions document and finalised  the EIS.  In accordance with section 104(4) of the EPBC Act, the Response to  Submissions document and Final EIS are now available for public viewing.  Copies of the documents can be downloaded from  www.shreeminerals.com/EIS or ordered as a hardcopy or on CD.  Shree encourages the use of electronic copies of these documents.  CD versions (at no cost) and hardcopies (at a cost of $20) can be ordered  by contacting Shree on (03) 6108 9043.
